I am a full-time student, independent vendor and mother of a daughter who was diagnosed with MS at age 18. She is plagued by numerous symptoms – such as 50% blindness and swelling in her brain. She is currently able to utilize Kansas Medicaid but at age 21 my daughter will no longer be eligible. Without Medicaid, my daughter's medication will cost roughly $20,000 per year. My daughter faces the challenge of looking for some kind of health insurance – most of which she can't afford with her “pre-existing conditions.” As a student and an independently employed person, I cannot afford to help my daughter secure health insurance in this expensive market.
